“The Journey to Freedom” created by Wesley Wofford is 9’ tall and has been traveling across the United States since 2020. The intention behind this traveling monument was to resemble Harriet’s travels to free hundreds of enslaved people. It is a beautiful tribute. This traveling exhibition is being sponsored by Jamie and Clint Howard of Found Fine Art and Pyrology Foundry & Studio in Bastrop. The monument will be in Bastrop June through August 2024. Pyrology, Kerr Community Center, Bastrop County African American Cultural Center, Bastrop Juneteenth Celebration, Visit Bastrop, Bastrop County Museum & Visitor Center and the City of Bastrop are working on fun and engaging activities surrounding the monument for its time here in Bastrop.
